NDE delegation meets President Koroma

Accompanied by the Sierra Leone High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Plenipotentiary Henry McCauley, a high–powered delegation from the National Directorate of Unemployment (NDE) Nigeria, met President Koroma at his office State Lodge Hill Station, Freetown.

The delegation which is in the country to work with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Youth Commission and the Government in harnessing youth unemployment, Monday Augusts 1st this year reassured President Koroma of its directorate’s fullest support in addressing the problem.

While presenting the delegation to President Koroma the Minister of Youth and Sports Paul Kamara said the presence of the NDE team in Freetown indicates an answer to the call of the President to address problems associated with youth.

He disclosed that the team is also set to undertake a study tour across the country to acquire first hand information about realities of the youth situation.

The NDE team, the Youth and Sports Minister further explained, will accelerate efforts by Government and come up with a permanent frame-work for the restructuring of the middle-level man-power of young people and help in poverty reduction.

The move is also geared towards promoting President Koroma’s ‘Agenda for Change’ by working in close collaboration with the National Youth Commission, which is expected to start operations soon.

The NDE Team Leader, Director of Planning and Research, Dr. S. Ntonola Mfam conveyed his government’s commitment to further find means of salvaging the youth situation in Sierra Leone.

Dr. Mfam told President Koroma that the Nigerian Government has great concerns for the plight of young people in the West African state. Since arriving in the country his team has so far held discussions with High Commissioner McCauley and had very successful deliberations with him in respect of the issue. He also underscored the dire need to interact with key players to address the youth problem in Sierra Leone.

In response, President Koroma expressed his thoughtful gratitude to the NDE team for its swift response to his call to share responsibilities and actively engage young people.

‘I am impressed by the quick response you have made’, he said, noting the growing youth population in Sierra Leone some of whom are talented whilst the unskilled ones are unemployed.

This is among multiple reasons for the setting up of the National Youth Commission which President Koroma believes will contribute positively to national development.
