Help a Needy Child International (HANCI-SL) over the weekend enhanced 157 teenage mothers and street children (boys and girls), with packages containing clothing and cosmetic goods at its office at Kissy Friday and Saturday 22, 23 July respectively.

Speaking at the ceremony, HANCI Psycho-Social and Counselling Nurse, Mrs. Henretta Scott said that of the 150 beneficiaries, 92 are vulnerable teenage mothers and 65 street children.

She noted however that the beneficiaries are children who have been abandoned by their parents, school dropouts, or who find themselves in the street because of bad friends etc.

She said her organization has made provison for the training of vulnerable teenage mothers on issues bordering on good parenting skills, how to take care of their babies, skills in gara tie dying, hair dressing, tailoring – a way to help squash out poverty.

She furthered that HANCI has been in existence for 15 years now. It caters for the needy children, but will soon concentrate on the adolescents.

She noted however that the youths must be considered as they are the most critical in society – the stage between childhood and adulthood.

Giving a lecture on basic child care, a nurse working at the Agency Hospital said child care starts from pregnancy.

She advised the kids to visit the clinic regularly, learn to take the right treatment prescribe them and eat good and decent food.

Nurse Bawoh said parents should breast feed their children for at least six months before making them start to eat food.

She advised the mothers to always take their children for vaccine treatment to prevent them from acquiring contagious deceases.

She however told the parents not to inculcate the habit of giving their babies warm water, or biscuit, or involve in sexual activities soon after birth.

Marima Kamara, a beneficiary, thanked HANCI for the good initiative in picking them from the street and making them what they are today.

She prayed that HANCI gets a helping hand in furtherance of their work.
