Police generate Le 9.5 M every week
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Salifu Conteh yesterday told pressmen that the Traffic Division in the Sierra Leone generates Le 9.5 million every week due to fines levied against lawless drivers, bike riders and traffic breakers.
ASP Salifu revealed that a total 136 arrests were made last week. Culprits included 20 bike riders and the rest Poda-Poda and taxi drivers.
He said provincial traffic divisions have contributed greatly in the arresting and prosecution of persons violating traffic rules and regulations.
He furthered that the traffic division is divided into two – the Western Traffic which is headed by ASP Flavious Sesay and the Eastern Traffic.
He said he will soon launch a new operation which will target those individuals who illegally install false ‘no parking’ ‘no waiting’ signs in front of their shops and offices without the permission of the police.
He added that the said signs are allowed for use by diplomatic offices and hospitals.
He warned that private users of ‘no parking’ ‘no waiting’ signs should register and pay for them on a yearly basis.
