Salone Police bribe $2,000 for Sudan stay
There are indications that the High Command of Sierra Leone is embroiled in receiving bribes from Police Officers who want to stay in the peace keeping mission in Dafur, Sudan, some Police officers who appeared very aggrieved have told this paper.
They stated that the agreed amount for the extension of stay in the mission for another two years is $2,000.
They also explained that even though the term of office of these officials has been extended to two years as agreed upon in the term of reference, some personnel who have been enjoying fat allowances have selfishly condescended to giving bribes so that they will continue for another term thereby depriving their colleagues back home who have already been selected and certified to replace them.
They further explained that most of these now giving the bribes have served in the mission for well over two years and have been there even before the period was extended from twelve months to two years.
They however refused to state the names of the senior Police Officers they allege were collecting the money.
When we contacted the Police Media Director, ASP Ibrahim Samura on the matter he denied knowledge of the allegation and stated that they would institute an investigation into the claim.
