Nurses expose SLPP aspirant

Furious Nurses of the Holy Mary Hospital at Mellon Street in Wellington east of Freetown, have expressed dissatisfaction over the uninspiring conduct of one of Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flagbearer contenders, Dr. Anthony Soyei (in photo), which now purged the one time famous health facility into continued dissolution.

Dr. Soyei serves as Head of Holy Mary Hospital and is also one of the hard-hitting contenders in the race for the SLPP highest position in the wake of the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Sources say that the medical officer turned politician, abandoned his duties as head of Holy Mary Hospital to battle with fellow politicians for leadership of the party.

His action, we are told, has been tagged as ‘putting the lives of vulnerable Wellington residents at risk’ thus exposing them to the sequential acquisition of killable sicknesses day in and out.

Speaking on the grounds of anonymity, nurses working at the hospital expressed frustration over the accelerated degeneration of operations of the hospital in terms of service delivery.

“It is disappointing though that at a time hospitals compete for a better service delivery, the Holy Mary Hospital keeps failing unchecked,” nurses said.

“Dr. Soyei should be replaced, or else the Holy Mary Hospital will unfailingly dwindle in ruins.”

It was however revealed that the Holy Mary Hospital is seemingly becoming a centre for abortion.

That such, on number of occasions, was done by a senior medical practitioner reportedly residing in Port Loko town in the northern province of Sierra Leone.

The nurses therefore call on the Ministry of Health and other health authorities to come to their aid and help put a halt to the wrongful conduct of medics of the Holy Mary Hospital.

Indications have it that the hospital lacks trained medical staff to attend to patients owing to poor remunerations.

Findings also have it that a handful of untrained nursing aids are often choked with odd jobs – to fetch water, clean drainages, launder hand outs etc.
