FBC lecturers demand salary increase

The Academic Staff Association of Fourah Bay College (FBC) University of Sierra Leone has requested government increase salaries of lecturers or if not, it will unfailing step up strike action.

In a declaration put out by members of FBC Academic Staff Association, it is stated that government has been given 21 day ultimatum to look into salaries and trimming benefits of professors, lecturers and short-term teaching assistants.

The declaration also states that a meeting was held Thursday 12th May by the academic staff of the college where it was understood that salaries of lecturers should be revised and increased.

It is furthered that the decision to have the salaries of FBC lecturers increased is to alleviate the adverse effects of the high cost of living as well as reduce the wear and tear from the University and fight against the declining educational standards.

The Academic Staff have requested for take home salaries of Professors at Le 17 million, Associate Professors Le 15 million and Senior lecturers Le 13 million.

It is a fact that government has had unsolicited pressure from civil society groups, Labour Congress and the general public for the rise in the price of petroleum products.
