ACC presents 2010 Annual Report and Cheques in the sum of Le 611,141,000 and USD $9,450 to President Koroma
The Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (in photo) has on the 13th of May 2011 presented the 2010 Anti-Corruption Commission Annual Report to His Excellency, the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma at State Lodge in Freetown. During his presentation, Commissioner Kamara also presented on behalf of the Commission, two cheques for the consolidated fund; a six hundred and eleven million, one hundred and forty one thousand leones (Le 611,141,000) and a nine thousand four hundred and fifty US dollars ($9450) respectively, being monies recovered from proceeds of corruption.
Mr. Kamara also stated that within the course of the year in review, the ACC had presented to the government a total of one billion eight hundred million leones (Le 1,800,000,000), despite the fact that the Commission is not a revenue generating agency. He assured the President that the Commission would continue to complement the work of the government by making sure that there are enough recovery proceedings. The Commissioner also informed His Excellency that in the course of the last six months, the Commission prosecuted 17 new cases in which there were 8 convictions and 2 acquittals.
In his response, President Koroma said he was satisfied with the promptness of the Commission. “I am very pleased that the Anti-Corruption Commission has submitted their Report which is an indication of the level of efficiency and the speed with which you are doing things within the organization. So let me start by commending you for the timely submission of the Report” he said. The President reaffirmed his government’s support to the Commission in the fight against corruption. He encouraged the Commission to keep up with the good work.
The Annual Report 2010 examines the convictions, cases acquitted and discharged; recovery details; case reports; Systems Review in Ministries Departments and Agencies, Service Charters, development of Codes of Conducts for local councils; Community Outreach meetings, General Challenges, the way forward, and the Financial Report for 2009.
