Chairman for the occasion Hon. Alpha Kanu described the commissioning as a new era of shipping in Sierra Leone adding that the occasion was a manifestation of the APC lead government’s commitment to develop the nation regardless of tribe, race or party and a positive story of growth.

He informed the audience at the occasion that now we have our own shipping lines and that it is uplifting that it was taking place during our Anniversary.

Making a statement the Director of Premuda Rulle Bamie Turay said the occasion was a proof to the word of the government that Sierra Leone is indeed ready for business.

He commended Vice President Sam Sumana’s effort for making several trips to England and Italy where he finalized arrangements and invited investors to Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone, Mr. Turay noted is becoming a greater in economic development.

Giving an overview of the company, Premuda Managing Director Stefano Rosina, said Premuda was established with a long reputable history of integrity and reliability.

He said Premuda is an insured and highly diversified company.

Hon. Minkailu Mansaray said the commissioning was a historic occasion and that President Koroma’s development strides are focused on the maritime sector.

He said the nation will soon become a shipping destination that would provide employment and sea fearers.

The Minister commended President Koroma’s vision for transforming Sierra Leone into a prosperous nation.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation Osmund Hancilles described occasion as another red letter day for the nation under the captaincy of President Koroma, as he promised his ministry’s support.

Delivering the keynote address, President Koroma said the commissioning of the carrier is an important occasion. He observed that the commissioning of Felix Juice Company and now the Premuda attaches growth to our private sector which is the normal sequence of development.

As a result he observed that government is making changes in laws and cutting down on time spent to register a business.

All these, he said is happening during our 50th anniversary, with a general promise to move forward.

“It could be recalled that on assuming office, I invited Sierra Leoneans worldwide to play active roles in the private sector as it is the business of Sierra Leoneans to lead and develop the nation. I want to see many more of such projects that will make us richer,” he said.

President Koroma called on the company to train Sierra Leoneans to run the show and manned such big vessels. The nation, he noted is on the move and such trend he emphasized must be sustained. “We would not rest until we become a donor nation.

Sierra Leoneans will rise again as it is our responsibility to ensure that our nation takes the right place in the international arena” President Koroma vowed.

After the pouring of libation the President and his entourage were taken on a conducted tour of the vessel. The sophisticated carrier, he was informed is less than a year old with a length of close to 200 meters and doing up to30 nautical miles per hour.
