As a show of appreciation to Sierra Leone and its inhabitants, airtel made cash donations to the 50th Anniversary Committee, the social wing of the 50th anniversary and the Wilberforce community, where the headquarter resides.
In celebrating a new Sierra Leone after a worthy 50 years of independence, airtel presented a whopping Le1 million to the Vice President of the nation on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone for the 50th anniversary celebrations in a much wider perspective. Following this a further Le 50 million was donated to the social wing of the 50th Anniversary celebrations. This group was charged with the responsibility of staging a grand carnival at Lumley beach that left an indelible positive impression in the minds and hearts of Sierra Leoneans who visited the venue during the celebrations. Airtel was the sole sponsor of this initiative.
In another development, airtel, whose headquarters is based in Wilberforce gave the Wilberforce community a face-lift by donating the sum of Le 4 million. The cash was geared towards beautifying the community in time for the Independence celebrations and for the facilitation of an independence party for the women of the Wilberforce community market.
The said donation was received on behalf of the Wilberforce community by Honorable Chernor Maju Bah, Member of Parliament for the Wilberforce community and also the chairman of the beautification project.
Speaking on behalf of the youth and community the Honorable Chernor Maju Bah thanked the Managing Director and Staff of airtel for adding value to the whole exercise; he reiterated the fact that the money will be used for the right purpose. He however noted that airtel has always been supportive towards development not only in the Wilberforce community but Sierra Leone as a whole since the days of Celtel and Zain. In his closing remarks he said that this was a step in the right direction and a motivation to others. He wished the Managing Director and all Staff of airtel a blessed and wonderful 50th independent anniversary, and prayed that the peace of God be with each and every Sierra Leonean as they celebrated.
