Celebrating 50 years of Independence
From the Office of the Secretary General, APCNA – Comrades, Party leaders and countrymen, I bring you warm greetings from the secretariat of the All People Congress North America (APCNA) branch as we celebrate our country’s 50th year of independence from British rule. This is a very important moment for us all as a branch (APCNA), Party (APC), and country – Sierra Leone. A moment set for us by our President, His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and the Progressive All People Congress (APC) party government to look back and reflect positively to where we have come from as a nation in our development, politics and governance. It is a time for us to map out what we have done well that we need to do best, and what we have failed to do well to do it better.
As we celebrate the work of past and present generations who sacrificed hard to start the count of what we are celebrating today, I want us to salute and reverence people like Sir Milton Margai, Dr. John Karefa Smart, Dr. Siaka Probyn Stevens and all our honorable men and women who at different times have in diverse ways worked to earn us what we celebrate today.
Many thanks also to our honorable members or Parliament, Cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic missions and our civil servants who are dedicated to the development of our country under the leadership of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. I applaud them regardless of what we may perceive or measure their works over the years. Their works forms part of what we celebrate today. I also want to salute our men in uniform and all the people of Sierra Leone for all the sacrifices and contributions over the past years. There is no way Sierra Leoneans could celebrate 50 years of independent without their contributions.
For our politicians have lead, our uniform men and women have worked for our security, our people regardless of their status have followed and served faithfully and our friends in the international community have stood by us for the past fifty years of self governance. For where they might have erred due to human nature I pray for the good God to forgive them.
To all the members, supporters and friends of the Great APCNA branch, the dynamite of the APC Party, I want to congratulate and salute everyone for our immense contribution to the party and our country Sierra Leone. Our role in the development of Sierra Leone in the past and present moment cannot be over stated. Our party and its dynamic leadership have and continue to recognize and reward our contributions towards the development of the land that we love. Our “Solomon”, President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma in his wisdom has named us a key district in the political and economic development of Sierra Leone.
His government continues to demonstrate this notion by entrusting members from our branch and the diasporas at large with key positions in his government and I am strongly convince that in his wisdom he will continue to count on members of the APCNA to help him govern and uplift Sierra Leone.
To our hard working President and leader of the Party, I want to assure him and his government that the APCNA under the leadership of Chairman Al Aziz Turay will continue to support him and his government as he works hard to development Sierra Leone. We are ready to demonstrate this by unflinchingly supporting his bid for reelection in the 2012 presidential election with all our might, our strength and resources. We are unified as a chapter in this commitment.
As we celebrate, I want to urge each Sierra Leonean to ask him or herself “what am I going to do for Sierra Leone? Let’s start to work towards answering this question right at this moment as we celebrate the past. For we can judge the fruits of this celebrations from what we do right after the drumming is over, the glasses are shelved, we are back to our farms and offices and when those of us from the Diaspora would have return.
My humble suggestion in this case to all Sierra Leoneans and our friends in the international community, the right footing to celebrating a successful Sierra Leone in the years to come is to yield to our president call of “Attitudinal Change”. I call this the twelfth commandment. We must compel ourselves to develop an attitude that will move our country forward. Yes we can do it and we must begin today, right at this moment to work for a better Sierra Leone. A Sierra Leone where no one will go hungry or wonder where the next meal will come from, where kids regardless of the homes they are born will not die prematurely, nor do our women die in labour.
On behalf of the Chairman and executive members of the APCNA, supporters and friends, I want to thank you all for all the immense contributions we are making towards the development of the party and the government of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and our beloved country, the republic of Sierra Leone.
Many thanks also to all APCNA chapter presidents and their executives.
May God bless us all. Thank you! Thank you! Long Live President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma Long Live APC Long Live APCNA God Bless Sierra Leone Peace, Love and Respect to all,Samuel Dilito Turay, Acting Branch Secretary, APCNA
