Cheap politics – Minister switches to APC

‘Rotten politics’ people call it, is undoubtedly the cause to Sierra Leone’s woeful and uncalled for underdevelopment.

The shock took over minds of Sierra Leoneans minutes after Daniel Gaima; one of President Koroma’s Deputy Ministers, admitted he is APC and no more Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) party member.

Daniel Gaima, in a trembling mood told Sierra Leone Broadcasting Cooperation (SLBC) news hour presenter, Madam Salmata Bah that he is no longer a member of the PMDC and maintained he will continue serving the APC.

“I have resigned from the PMDC owing to bad leadership,” Gaima said “As a politician, it is always my wish to serve society and that is what I now do.”

Shameful though was Gaima’s outright acknowledgment that he is no more a PMDC member, but APC.

It must be summed up that Daniel Gaima, as at 2007, was PMDC nominee in the cabinet of President Koroma.

He served as Deputy Minister of Lands, but was sacked in 2010.

Just recently, Gaima was reappointed as Deputy Minister by President Koroma.

The reappointment of Gaima however resulted to his resignation as PMDC member.

Sources say that Gaima’s dismissal as Deputy Minister of Lands almost sees him as practical hustler; not having a cent for his survival.

This, to some PMDC members, has been the reason that allures him into ungratefully abandon his party of origin to join the APC – where he believes he can easily survive.

In Sierra Leone, it is a fact that politicians behave like prostitutes, move from party ‘A’ to party ‘B’ on the grounds of self interest rather than the general good.

Gaima, who presently serves as Deputy Minister of Health, switched over to the APC because he wants them to retain him in office.

The interview of Gaima by anchor Salmata Bah gives a picture that seemingly explains his character and the things he is capable of doing.

Some schools of contemplation tagged Gaima’s quitting/‘giving up’ from the PMDC as selfish, uncalled-for and self seeking.

“Posterity will surely judge the likes of Gaima,” a group of loyal PMDC members fumed.
“By the way, is Gaima not that man, who until his reappointment as Deputy Minister, patrols homes and offices of APC politicians to make them consider him for appointment to Ministerial position?”

  • I am a Sierra Leone residing in Philadelphia, USA. It doesn’t matter who switches parties as long as in goodwill. In America, Democrat switches to Republican, and Republicans switches to independence or Tea Party. I was a strong APC supporter and then switch to SLPP, and now back to APC; so you can see how politics play. I rather dont want to raise my hand shouting APC, APC, APC because it’s too early but keep quite to see what the leaders and law makers are doing in my country, and then, I will sing ALLELUA if things works well for the poor. As of now, Ernest Koroma has a “B” grade from “C+” in February 2011. Hey Ernest, I can’t help you talk to your ministers but my computer key boards will guide me through. I am a Nurse in USA switch from teacher profession in Sierra Leone. So you see how politics play. I really wants to talk to you if I can get your phone number or just email me, please, please.
