SLAJ, US Embassy to train bloggers

FreetownIn collaboration with the United States Embassy in Freetown, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists will hold a training programme for journalists interested in setting up and operating their own blogs. It follows a discussion the SLAJ Executive held in September last year with officials of the US Information Resource Centre at which the need for training in blogging for their members was stressed.

The 3-hour-long training for a target group of 30 journalists will take place on Wednesday 6 April 2011 at the Harry Yansanneh Memorial Hall at the SLAJ headquarters in Freetown at 09:30 AM PROMPT and will be led by Myra Brown, Information Resource Officer at the US Embassy in Accra, Ghana.

“The Sierra Leone media has come a great length over the years, but it is yet to seize the opportunity of a healthy debate and spread presented by blogging” says Umaru Fofana, President of SLAJ. Fofana urges especially print media journalists to seize the opportunity the training presents and make blogging thrive in the country.

Interested journalists should contact the SLAJ Secretariat on 076460423, and the first 30 to do so, who must be SLAJ members, will be selected. There will be subsequent in-house training provided by a core group of this first batch of bloggers.
