Incumbent Umaru Fofanah and new comer Sheik Mustapha Bawoh were each voted by the membership of SLAJ to respective positions as mentioned above.

Umaru Fofanah scored a total of 274 votes as against 36 votes of challenger Mustapha Sesay.

For the Vice President position, Sheik Mustapha Bawoh narrowly defeated Madam Williette John at 145 votes to 142, giving a difference of 3 votes.

Celebrations overcame minds of SLAJ’s general membership after the announcement of elections results reached the ears of all at the Holy Trinity Hall in Kenema Town.

The announcement of the impatiently waited Vice President result brings minds of especially female journalists to rest after their candidate of choice Sheik Mustapha Bawoh was declared winner.

Apart from the positions of President and Vice President, the executive positions including secretary general and assistant secretary general, went unopposed.

According to some members of SLAJ, Umaru Fofanah’s re-appointment was based upon the goodies he had brought for the association in just two years of governance.

Facts have it that Umaru has secured SLAJ a standard office space, the Harry Yansanneh Hall, respectability, and trainings for up and coming journalists.

Sheik Bawoh, who now is SLAJ’s VP, defeated Williette John at three regions- south, east and western area respectively.

His votes, our investigation reveals, came mostly from the women.

In his trail, the re-elected SLAJ President, Umaru Fofanah, thanked the entire membership for voting him for the second and promised he will do it all for them.

He therefore called for peace between him and his challenger Mustapha Sesay and said he has forgiven him for whatever wrong he has done him.
