SLAJ Electoral Commission – objection letters

The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the membership of SLAJ that on the 16th of March 2011, two objection letters against the nomination of Mr. Moses Alex kargbo were received from Mr. Ismael Koroma and Mr. Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, both full members of SLAJ.  The eligibility of Mr. Moses Alex Kargbo to vie for the position of Secretary General in the National executive was objected on the grounds of failing to fulfill the SLAJ constitutional requirement of full membership for three consecutive years.

The Electoral Commission has therefore investigated the matter and has found out the following:

(i)   Article 11(2) of the SLAJ Constitution states:

“To be eligible for election on the National Executive, a candidate must be a paid-up full member of SLAJ and must have qualified for full membership for at least three consecutive years preceding the election.”

(ii)   Mr. Kargbo applied for SLAJ membership on July 15, 2008 and his application was approved on August 15, 2008.  As a result, Mr. Kargbo will fulfill his three years full membership status on August 15, 2011. (Application attached)

It is against this background that the Electoral Commission rule thus:

In order to fulfill the constitutional requirement for election to the National Executive and to enable us hold a fair and credible elections, the nomination of Mr. Moses Alex Kargbo for the position of Secretary General in the National Executive is annulled forthwith. He is not eligible to contest in the SLAJ National and Regional elections of March 26, 2011.

Signed, Ransford S.C. Wright, Chief Electoral Commissioner
