MBHS goes online
Barely, two weeks after former Head of state Rtd. Capt. Valentine Strasser benefited from a 6.5kva generator from Nasser Ayoub, the popular businessman and philanthropist, Ayoub in partnership with Murtala Mohamed Kamara on Tuesday donated 60 pairs of Puma footwear and launched the official website of the Methodist Boy’s High School (MBHS).
MBHS, one of the oldest learning institutions in sub-Saharan Africa yesterday became one of the few secondary schools in the country to own a website. mbhs.schools.edu.sl which was officially launched at the school compound Kissy mess mess by Nasser Ayoub popular businessman and Murtala Mohamed Kamara, Founder and Chief Executive of www.salonejamboree.net, Sierra Leone’s foremost entertainment online magazine.
In his remarks, Ayoub said: “We are here for three reasons: to give you 60 pairs of Puma footwear, to officially launch your website and to leave you with words of advice.”
The proprietor of Hotel Africanus urges the pupils to change their attitude for the good of the country. “You guys are the future leaders of this country and you must behave as such. You have a responsibility to this country; you have a responsibility to your parents, your teachers, your school and your community in general.” Ayoub said Sierra Leone has suffered for far too long because of bad attitudes. “We have fought wars, we have been ridiculed, they called us names and it is time we change all that, not just me but all of us.” he added: “therefore, I implore you to serve as ambassadors of peace.”
On his part, Ex-pupil of the school, Founder of www.salonejamboree.net who also doubles as the Public Relations Director of Lam-tech Foundation, a non-profit organization based in US said: “My story started here in 1996, when I was just 12 years. Just after I sat to my NPSE exams, passed with flying colors and I secured a space at the Methodist Boy’s High School, 1 Delta to be precise. To me, it was a privileged in those days to enroll in this noble institution. High School contributed to what I am today, and I am grateful to this school. Today, I am proud to say that I am a journalist, someone who has brought pride to this country. Journalism is a very powerful tool. You can use it to MAKE or BREAK. Well for me I have used this tool to MAKE.”
Kamara said that Lam-Tech Foundation is a non-profit organization based in the US, which is dedicated to helping underserved students, teachers and communities in the promotion of ICT in Sierra Leone. He said several schools are expected to benefit from a free website and virtual online library among other things. Kamara appealed to the pupils to take their work seriously, respect the rule of law, come to school on time, avoid truancy, stay away from girls and above all put God first.
Emma Dupigny, Principal of MBHS urged the pupils to emulate the footsteps of Murtala and Nasser. She thanked them for the donation. She said they have got lots of promises in the past but none has materialized.
The official handing over of the 60 pairs Puma creap and the launching of the website was officially done by Murtala and Nasser Ayoub.
