President Alex Bangs of the Houston Chapter is ready to lead – change has come to APC North America

Like an eagle flying up high, scanning the horizon for its prey, President Alex Bangs’ eyes scanned the audience at his inaugural ceremony, and decided to make his speech short but to the point. He had observed that the crowd was getting a little impatient with the eloquent speeches made by successive speakers. He knew his guests wanted more time to celebrate with him and his executive before the night ran out. He got to the stage and delivered a speech as if he had launched a powerful surgical military strike on suspected rebel targets. The president started off by acknowledging and welcoming the distinguished guests. He recognized the presence of His Excellency Ambassador Stevens, the Chairman of APC North America, Mr. Aziz Turay, members of his APC North America Executive, distinguished friends, well wishers and unidentified members of the opposition parties, especially SLPP members.

President Bangs said that he was extremely delighted to welcome everyone to the Great Bayou City of Houston, Texas. He reminded the audience of early 2010 when they in Houston, demonstrated commitments within their community to serve the APC party. Amidst a deafening applause, he talked about how convinced they are that it was the auspicious moment for them to realize their aspirations for their own Houston Chapter.

Mr. Bangs attributed the renaissance of pro-APC sentiments in the Houston community to the exemplary performance and transformational leadership of. H. E Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. “President Koroma has lunched our beloved country on a path of sustainable, socioeconomic and infrastructural development, so he makes it easy for us to recruit members,” he expressed his gratitude for the hard work and dedication of President Koroma. Amidst one of the loudest sustained applause and standing ovation that evening, he reiterated how president Koroma makes him proud to be and APC member..

The most powerful statement from the mild mannered and determined gentleman president Bangs came when he said, “I can assure you that we are ready to cooperate with APC North America Branch and all chapters. My first priority is to rally our members and potential members under the slogan, “Action, Progress and Commitment, for the prosperity and posterity of the APC North America and our home office. We must pursue peaceful channels to integrate our members, increase our membership and improve on the moral strength of every chapter in our union. This includes the mass campaign for the participation of women in our chapter and the vital contribution of our youths – the progressive future leaders of our beloved Sierra Leone to the continuity of the APC party.”

The statements above made things clear that President Alex Bangs is very concerned about the trajectory of events that have engulfed the APC North America Branch and its chapters within the past three years. His call for a mass campaign for the participation of women and the vital contributions of youths marked his progressive vision for the APC party. Any politician who wants to be successful in politics usually focuses on women and the youth.

At the end of his speech, president Alex Bangs called on each and every one present to join the APC family. He assured them of the many good things to come under APC leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma. “Thank you very much. God bless America and Sierra Leone.” he concluded. As I watched him rap up his speech, I realized that only good politicians use every moment to campaign. When you hear a politician sounding as if they are campaigning on their special inauguration ceremony, you can tell they are not ready to lay down their political ammunition any time soon.

Henry Kissinger once said that, “the task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been.” Real leadership as the one exemplified by Mr. Alex Bangs, is that type of leadership that motivates people to do something even things they are not sure about or have never done before. As Thomas Jefferson also said, “in matters of style, swim with the current: in matters of principle, stand like a rock.
