30 Pupils Sentenced to 9 Month Imprisonment

30 pupils attending respective secondary schools in Freetown have had their names on the list of persons sentenced to 9 months imprisonment.

At Court 3, Magistrate Shyllon yesterday slammed judgment on 30 pupils brought before his court for disorderly behaviour and carrying offensive weapons.

It could be recalled that on the 10th of February this year, at the National Stadium, the convicted persons were found in possession of offensive weapons – to wit: knives, scissors, compasses and forks.

After going through the prosecution’s and defense’s testimonies, all 30 accused were found guilty as charged and sentenced to 9 months imprisonment.

On count 1, the accused were sentenced to three months and/or pay a Le 400.000 each, and in count 2, six months each.

Magistrate Shyllon however ordered that some of the convicts who are juveniles (10 in number) must serve their sentences at the juvenile’s prison and at the same time allowed to attend school.  Minutes after handing down of sentences on all 30 accused persons, family members were observed showering tears for their loved ones they are taken to the Central Prison at Pademba Road.
