Le 200 Million Fraud – NRA Collector Netted
Detectives of the Criminal Investigation Department Saturday 11th frog matched to their Freetown office, a collector of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) for alleged fraud of Le 200 million.
Joseph Maada Soyie, a collector of NRA, is with the CID helping them in their investigation of the sum of Le 200 million alleged to have been embezzled.
He is detained alongside two others for respective committing of fraud at their places of work.
It is revealed that Amie Bayoh and Gondo have joined Maada Soyie in cells at the CID to answer to a separate case of fraud of millions of Leones generated through revenue collection.
Sources say Maada Soyie has built a multi-storey house and rides expensive cars while acting in the capacity of a collector at the NRA.
It is reported that the leadership of NRA has vehemently restrained the investigating police detectives from accessing documents relevant to their findings.
It must be noted that the police has been tasked to investigate such a matter on the basis of jurisdiction.
Credible information availed to this press state that the offence falls under economic crimes and must be investigated by the police and not the Anti Corruption Commission.
It is revealed that a collection of lawyers have made representations to the police requesting for bail, but were altogether snubbed.
It is unclear whether persons held by the police will be granted bail, or charged, or released as the case may be. Unconfirmed information revealed how some of the lawyers intend applying for Habeas corpus to enable the police bring to the court their client.
It is told to this press that Maada Soyie is the younger brother of Dr. Soyie, who doubles as one of SLPP’s aspirants for party leadership.
Dr. Soyie also faces trial at the Magistrate court and would make another appearance today.
