Paramount Chief Alhaji Almamy Sorie II (in photo), of Konike Bari Bineh Chiefdom, Tonkolili Chiefdom, made the statement at the door step of his Mecca Hotel shortly before they left the Holy land last night.
“For some of us, no matter what, we will stand by him day and night and at all times,” the Chief reiterated.
The 14 traditional leaders unanimously said that President Ernest Bai Koroma is a matured leader with laudable qualities to rule Sierra Leone.
Some of the South-Eastern Chiefs also praised the President for the manner in which he has been able to cut across religious and tribal barriers in the country.
Below are excerpts made about President Koroma and his Government by some of the Chiefs:
President Koroma is a leader of vision. Although a Christian, but he has never let down Muslims as he is always in the forefront of all their wishes and endeavours, citing the instance of the pilgrimage which he has restructured to the extent that this year’s Hajj is both a success and a cap on Government. I am therefore confident that the restructuring process of the Hajj which started this year would even make more impact next year. There are pilgrims I know he paid for personally this year. He’s indeed the kind of leader the nation had yearned. I want to encourage Sierra Leoneans to wish him all the best in the position he holds. P.C Alhaji Suluku J. Bockarie of Toli Chiefdom, Kono District and former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Youths and Sports
I speak on behalf of my colleague Paramount Chiefs. For generations gone by, this is the first time Sierra Leone has experienced a positive kind of development in Islam , especially as it is from somebody from a different religion in the person of His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. He has demonstrated to us the qualities of a patriotic and democratic leader. Like he often says, he’s not the President of the APC, but President of Sierra Leone.
Although from a Christian background, but the President has always appreciated Islam. To pour in resources and money is a clear indication that the President is a man who cares for all Sierra Leoneans. God will bless him. We shall continue to appreciate him. For some of us, no matter what, we will continue to lend our support to President Koroma. And I want to make it very clear that Hon. Minkailu Mansaray has excellently represented the President as Chairman of the 2010 Hajj Mission. On behalf of the Paramount Chiefs from the East, South and North, I thank the president for all the wonderful jobs he has done to make this year’s Hajj successful for Sierra Leonean pilgrims. P.C Alhaji Almamy Sorie II of Konike Bari Bineh Chiefdom, Tonkolili Chiefdom
I want to thank the President for the Bus and Ambulance already purchased by his Government to facilitate the movement of pilgrims during Hajj and to care for the sick and disabled pilgrims. These gestures by Government are sure to give confidence, hope and incentives to pilgrims. I think we should also thank Sierra Leoneans who were so wise enough to elect a leader who cares and loves his people. I think they made the right choice.
A good number of the pilgrims were also interviewed at the airport before they left. Majority of them were very much overwhelmed by the organization and facilities put in place in this year’s Hajj. The pilgrims openly prayed in loud voices for the President’s continued good health, Allah’s guidance, sustainable strength and wisdom to enable him achieve his set goals. P.C Alhaji Mohamed Alie Nallo V of Lugbu Chiefdom , Bo District and former Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Information and Broadcasting
Speaker after speaker commended the President and his Vice for the positive role they are playing to improve the status of the Hajj and the pilgrims and vowed to continue to give their support to the President and his team.
Some of the Chiefs who performed this year’s Hajj, include, P.C. Moinama Junissa Farma from Lower Bmbara, Kenema, PC Joseph Gadiru Sharka of Moyamba, PC Vandi Moinama Karmo of Kenema, PC Masa Kama Kanomanka of Kholifa, PC Mohamed Monrovia Banya of Bo, PC John Salia Rogers of Pujehun, Acting PC Lamin Bongay Gobeh of Kailahun, to name but a few.
