Tonkolili District Descendants Association
The general public is hereby informed about the formation of the Tonkolili District Descendants Association [TDDA].
TDDA is a non-political, non-partisan and non-governmental organisation, which shall be working with relevant authorities with the aim of addressing the welfare and interest of the ‘forgotten incandescent’ district in the Northern Province.
After series of consultations, sons and daughters of Tonkolili decided to work with the deprived communities in the district towards sustainable development.
TDDA believes that the people of Tonkolili district have for long been politically victimised and marginalised and this has left the district in rapid retrogression of infrastructural development and socio-economic activities.
For example, the operations of the Sugar cane factory in the district have not in any way reflected on the lives of the people of that community.
Meanwhile, with iron ore now booming in the township, TDDA is of the view that such a development is a case for concern which the authorities should take very seriously.
TDDA also believes that it is part of the cooperate responsibilities of companies operating in Tonkolili to address the welfare and other needs of the people of that community. But this, unfortunately, have not been done in the past.
The people of Tonkolili District cannot continue to suffer and therefore deserves equity development programmes from the natural resources and infrastructural development in the district.
Working with men and women of different capacities (Academics, Media professionals, Medical practitioners, politicians etc), TDDA is determine to address the problem of natural resources (cost-benefit), environmental degradation (pollution) and the ineffaceable participation of our people on issues affecting them.
TDDA also want to inform the public that it will be publishing a monthly press release on issues relating to the welfare of the people of Tonkolili.
Abubakar Kamara, Chairman, TDDA, UK
