Diaspora Initiative of North America

In 2010, the Diaspora Initiative of North America (DINA) a nonprofit organization located in the State of Georgia United States of America has stepped forward with this mission: “To Foster the Discussion between the Diaspora, Sierra Leone and West Africa.” This initiative is about ESTABLISHING A BASIS FOR HEALING AND RECONNECTION of Africans and African Americans. To turn this corner we’ve designed “The Siaka Stevens Center” a development of a new central library to be located in the City of Freetown, Sierra Leone, Africa. The Siaka Stevens Center will consist of four components: the Library, Museum, Conflict Resolution Building, and the Auditorium. This catalyst development will initiate “A Future That Ushers In A Change That Brings Lasting Transformation; Grounded In Reality, Exhibiting Healing, Peace and Prosperity In The 21st Century” for West Africa and America.

Last week in Manhattan, NY USA DINA met with President Ernest Bai Koroma to acquaint him with this initiative. The President’s response was positive and receptive towards this initiative, and he has committed to ensuring that land for this project be allocated.

DINA current members are:

  • President: Mabel Stevens John
  • Vice President: Unisa I.B. Kanu
  • Secretary General: Audrey Fisher Mowdy
  • Treasurer: Bannister Koroma

The Siaka Stevens Center when finished will be the first of its kind in Africa, a center for creating unity in Africa, the United States and the world.
