A baby at three

As a mother who has raised children, I know raising a child is not an easy thing to do.  Raising a child requires a lot of patience and it is sometimes full of pleasant and disappointing surprises.  However, by the third year, things normally get easier although the formation of the child’s personality begins to form.   By the age of three, most children can understand and they can be reasoned with. They would take turns in play and may even share their toys. A child at three, may be able to help their parents dressed them up.  At that age of three years, most toddlers are potty/toilet trained during the day, although it is common for occasional “accidents” while they are busy playing and do not want to stop. In previous generations, moms and dads learned what to expect of their child from their mother, grandmother or other family member. Today, most families are so scattered that parents do not have this help available. (Photo: Nanette Thomas, APC Dallas President)

Mr. President of the Republic of Sierra Leone His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, three years ago on September 17, 2007 you took over the mantle of leadership for our beloved country. At that time Sierra Leone was named the darkest country in the world. Today Sierra Leone is a country that people are running to go to, and are no longer afraid. If you go back and read his manifesto, he promised that if elected as President he would deliver to the people of Sierra Leone. For the past three years Sierra Leone and Sierra Leoneans have seen a shift in the right direction of our country. President Koroma has demonstrated good leadership and the success that comes with it. Every human being in the world, no matter who you talk to, what language you speak or country you reside in goes through life trying to determine what exactly the meaning of success really is. To most of us life only gives two options success or failure either you are successful with an exploding wallet of cash, driving a luxury roadster and married to supermodel or you are a failure just trying to hold on for the miserable ride of life to come. Personally I believe that the definition of success does not have to be so generalized and it can be broken down into multiple simpler definitions. The definition of success for me is determined by winning the battle of the fear to fail, the values one has in life, education and goal setting. Mr. President, this is my definition for you. You have won the battle without any fear, you have put Sierra Leone on the map, and Sierra Leoneans can now identify themselves with their country and you are setting more goals for our country. Who cannot be proud of a President like you?

One of Sierra Leone online news media sites stated: “What is interesting is when you take a look at the record of achievement of the President and his government. When you assume power in a country and inherit an economy that was not only shattered but stagnated, and in three years turned it around and make it productive and sustainable, you can only be commended and saluted for such outstanding contribution in making a difference in the lives of your people”.

Mr. President you have done extremely well for the people of Sierra Leone, your government, yourself, and your family. By the time you will be five years old, getting ready for kindergarten I know that it is going to be a different story for Sierra Leone. I pray that God will continue to guard and guide you as you continue to steer this ship. God bless you Mr. President.

Congratulations on your third anniversary in office!

If Sierra Leone were a child born on September 17, 2007, she would be walking, running, talking and helping her Mother dress her up by her third birthday.  Mr. President, Sierra Leone is no longer on the same spot; she is growing and moving up.  With your help we sat up, crawled, walked, run and now we are helping ourselves dress.  My three year old toddler has suddenly grown into a great man jumping up and down and he is saying ‘I will not rest until I turn Sierra Leone into a sophisticated and enviable country.’
