Cambridge University honours Justice Fofanah

Honourable Justice Abdulai Sheikh Fofanah, Judge of the High Court of Sierra Leone has received an award from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.  (Hon. Justice Abdulai Sheikh Fofanah presents his award to  Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner in the UK, Edward Turay)

The Sierra Leonean Judge was honoured after presenting a paper at the 28th Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crimes which took place at the University between 5th to 12th September this year.

The topic: Global Financial Crisis and the role of the Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary in strengthening the integrity of financial institutions under corporate governance in Sierra Leone, highlights efforts of the Sierra Leone government in improving the country’s economy.

The paper also looks at the fight against economic crimes such as anti-money laundering, corruption, drug trafficking and child trafficking.

Yesterday, Justice Fofanah presented his award to Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Edward Mohamed Turay at his 41 Eagle Street, Holborn office in Central London.

Fofanah was introduced to the High Commissioner by the mission’s Head of Chancery Florence Bangali.

High Commissioner Turay said he was deeply impressed by Justice Fofanah tremendous achievement on behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone.

“Such an award will go a long way in boosting the image of Sierra Leone internationally,” Turay said.

He said he was not surprised that Justice Fofanah is being decorated with such an outstanding international honour considering his wealth of experience in the legal field.

“It’s an achievement you deserve and I must commend you for that,” he said.
