Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara addresses SLPP Chapters in the US
Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara, one of the leading aspirants for the SLPP leadership contest in 2011, has completed his familiarisation and sensitization tour of all SLPP Chapters in the USA. During his whistle-stop tour, Alhaji Boie Kamara presented his credentials and vision for the party to the broad membership of the SLPP at all levels – grassroots, activists, officials as well as sympathisers. He challenged the party to a new form of engagement and dialogue which emphasised the primacy of a bottom-up approach to decision-making as opposed to the much-maligned top-down approach. This, he maintained, will allow grassroots members to be at the centre of key decisions which will determine the upward trajectory of the party rather than a few people at the top executive level. The mild-mannered, articulate and disciplined former civil servant – with an enviable and unblemished 30-year track record of working in all the four regions of Sierra Leone – launched his bid to be the party’s flag-bearer in the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, with a five step plan which he believes will return the country to the ideals of the founding fathers of the SLPP.
Foremost, he is determined to build the skilled human resources of the country by investing massively in education and research to enhance and revive a one time internationally acknowledged and respected educational system that has been neglected and undermined by the APC party. Also to create the environment for Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora to contribute their knowledge and expertise that they have acquired to build a better Sierra Leone.
Second, he will increase the investment in the energy and water sector of the country so that Sierra Leoneans will once again boast of a country that prides itself on its sustainable electricity power and an uninterrupted clean water supply.
Third, he will launch a road network initiative which will include the construction of new roads in major cities of the country (particularly to ease the traffic burden in Freetown), as well as trunk roads that will access remote and underdeveloped areas of the country.
Fourth, he will massively invest in the agricultural sector by promoting modern technological development to attain self sufficiency in rice production and increase production in other agricultural products for export.
Fifth, Alhaji Boie Kamara, said that he will promote a cross party dialogue in the country in order to strengthen and enhance peace, security and harmonious relationships in the country which, in his view, will promote and strengthen the democratic and economic stability of the country.
Finally Alhaji Boie Kamara stressed the importance of all Sierra Leoneans working together to achieve his goals for a better Sierra Leone.
In all, he visited New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington, Maryland, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Minneapolis. Gauging the response of members who attended these meetings, Alhaji Boie Kamara’s vision was well received by members of the party, and his credentials and track record left a huge impression in every chapter.
