‘Lady Diana’ to replace Ambassador Yambasu: Lady Diana Konomanyi a diehard APC
State Lodge sources last weekend confirmed to this medium that Diana Konomanyi (in photo), fondly referred to as Lady Diana and current APC Chairperson, Eastern Region will definitely succeed the outgoing District Council Chairman, Mr. John Yambasu who has been appointed as Sierra Leone’s new ambassador to Russia.
According to a competent source, at a time when nobody in 2002 wanted to see red sun, she single handedly took the APC party to Kono district just after APC had their regional convention. She campaigned vigorously to bring the youths together and when she contested for Mayorship in Kono under the APC ticket, she succeeded in getting a huge voter turnout even though the APC lost to the SLPP.
Report has it that it was because Diana Konomanyi continued the struggle that people started accepting APC under Ernest Bai Koroma.
In 2007, Lady Diana Konomanyi contested for the parliamentary seat in constituency 21 but was defeated with a 30 vote margin by the SLPP candidate.
The Kono district executive led by John Yambasu and ‘ady Diana Konomanyi, fought very hard to resist the SLPP intimidating APC supporters as he even led a demonstration against the SLPP for bringing down Ernest Koroma’s portrait in Kono.
Several people contacted in Kono stated that Lady Diana was the right choice to succeed Ambassador John Yambasu as she cut across all other political party members.
That notwithstanding, the people of Kono said she often used her own resources to bankroll the APC for it to succeed in Kono. “She is selfless, modest, hardworking, firm, focused, result-oriented, loyal, God fearing and an administrator per excellence,” said an old man in Kono, noting her love for Kono and mankind cannot be over emphasized.
Several ministers, parliamentarians and paramount chiefs contacted expressed similar sentiment about Diana Konomanyi, stating that replacing John Yambasu was a foregone conclusion.
President Koroma is just waiting for Ambassador Yambasu to be confirmed by parliament before the announcement is made.
