Oxford invites President Koroma

The group says it will be a profound privilege to host the Sierra Leonean leader for him to share his political experience during this Michaelmas Term.
A letter of invitation from the university’s President James Kingston, states that students at Oxford University – many of whom are passionately interested in African politics and those of Sierra Leone in particular would be profoundly grateful for the opportunity to hear from President Koroma.
“Any talk would be of the deepest interest to them as the strong and enduring links between the United Kingdom and Sierra Leone are hugely valued,” the letter states.
“As President of Sierra Leone, your insights into the challenges faced by your country and the work of rebuilding and reconciliation would be unparalleled,” the letter confirms.
It is also understood that union speaker meetings are always popular and the audience is essentially entirely student based and the event attracts coverages from international media like the BBC, CNN, and most of the British national leading newspapers.
The Oxford Union meeting has a proud tradition of hosting visiting statesmen – figures such as Presidents Nixon, Regan and Carter, Senator John McCain, Madeline Albright and General Petraeus of the United States as well as Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto among few others.
The Sierra Leonean leader has been guaranteed a fantastic welcome in Oxford and the organizers have planned a high-profiled reception for one of Africa’s finest and most respected leaders.
Since his coming into power in 2007, President Koroma has so far impressed the world with his remarkable leadership style and this latest invitation is one big testimony to that fact.
