IPAM students call for lower fees

Students of the Institute of Public Administration and Management have called on the University authorities to reduce the fees for tuition and other payments students have to pay, stating that it is too exorbitant. This was revealed to Sierra Express Media by a cross section of students who asked not to be named. The students want their call to be considered by Professor J.D. Thompson, the newly appointed Director of the Institute.

It could be recalled that the University Court of the University of Sierra Leone last month appointed Professor Ekundayo J. D. Thompson to act as Deputy Vice Chancellor of IPAM.

The new deputy Vice-Chancellor who assumed office on 1st October 2009 has been welcomed by students and a good number of the students hope the new head of the institution will fill the vacuum left by the previous deputy Vice-Chancellor and Director Dr. Bert Williams.

According to some members of the Student’s Union, Professor Thompson’s appointment is welcome news as he is likely to give a positive touch to the college.

“We welcome Professor Ekundayo Thomspon as our new Director and wish him a wonderful stay with us and a cordial one too,” one of them said.

Meanwhile, during the opening of the college recently, the general cry of many students on campus has been on what they call the astronomical high fee they have to pay which is said to be about Le 2.5 million Leones.

“We want to implore our new Vice-Chancellor Professor Ekundayo J. D. Thompson to consider a reduction in the new fee structures so that we won’t have to leave university because of the increased cost,” the students said.
