I Did Not Kill Mosquito – Charles Taylor

Reports from the Special Court on the Charles Taylor trial going on in The Hague has quoted Charles Taylor as saying that he did not order the execution of former RUF Commander, Sam Mosquito Bockarie and Junta Leader, Johnny Paul Koroma. He is said to have denied claims that he was blood thirsty and barbaric during his days as rebel leader and as president of Liberia as presented by prosecution witness in the ongoing trial.

Charles Taylor described as racist and bigotry; allegations of cannibalism and human sacrifice were levied against him by prosecution witness Zigzah Marzah during a cross examination session in the ongoing trial. Zigzag Marzah one of the Liberian witnesses alleged last year that Mr. Taylor sacrificed a pregnant woman, an accusation which Mr. Taylor has out rightly denied, telling the court that Marzah who had accused him of human sacrifice and cannibalism was programmed by the prosecution.

Mr. Taylor vehemently denied engaging in human sacrifice and cannibalism.

Prosecution witness Zigzah Marzah also claimed last year that Mr. Taylor ordered the execution of one of his commanders called ‘Superman’ for sacrifice, a claim which Taylor described as the machination of the prosecutor.

During his testimony, Marzah had alleged that Superman was executed on the Bomi Hill Highway in Liberia and his body dismembered. He had told the court that Superman’s heart, liver and hands were taken to Mr. Taylor and eaten as a sacrifice. Marzah had also informed the court last year during proceedings that Mr. Taylor ordered the execution of former RUF commander, Sam Bockarie and junta leader Johnny Paul Koroma, adding that the former warlord had ordered the execution of the two Sierra Leone rebel leaders and two Liberian rebel commanders Superman and Daniel Tamba to destroy any evidence against him.

Mr. Taylor strongly dismissed the allegations saying the Sierra Leone Court has no jurisdiction over him.  Mr. Taylor sees his trial as part of a wave of regime change reportedly being carried by western powers in poor African countries.

Contrary to what the prosecution said during its submission, Taylor denied ordering RUF and NPFL troops in Sierra Leone to capture and kill West African and United Nations Peacekeepers.
