Engineers Hold Sub-Regional Conference
The Sierra Leone Institute of Engineers last Wednesday commenced its biennial sub-regional conference at the Bank of Sierra Leone Complex, Kingtom. The theme for the conference was “Financing Infrastructural Development in Sierra Leoneâ€.
The forum discussed a wide range of ideas on how finances could be generated by the government of Sierra Leone in partnership with the private sector and international agencies to implement infrastructural development projects.
In a pre-conference document, the institution noted that as Sierra Leone is currently pursuing several major infrastructural development projects, financing cannot be wholly achieved by the government alone.
It was added that some form of partnership will therefore be necessary if the developmental goals set out by government are to be achieved.
During the conference, various papers were presented by Sierra Leoneans, Nigerians and Ghanaians on various sub themes that will provide useful insight into the future generation and accessing of finance for infrastructural development in the country. Recommendations arrived at during the deliberations will be forwarded to the Government of Sierra Leone.
