ECOWAS and Sierra Leone Govt. finalize preparations for hand over of land for Regional Logistic Depot
The international Community has passed another vote of confidence in the present peace and stability policy of the President Ernest Bai Koroma All People’s Congress (APC) led Government and visible calm in the Country, by recent development which saw the duo; Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) commission (and Sierra Leone government) agreeing on the final stages of arrangements for the establishment of a regional ECOWAS stand – by force logistics depot in Sierra Leone. According to a statement issued by the Communications Department of ECOWAS, a  three-member ECOWAS technical committee returned from Freetown where it Finalized preparations for the hand-over of land donated by the Government of Sierra Leone  to ECOWAS for the establishment of a regional logistics depot.
The Ernest Bai Koroma led Government of Sierra Leone offered the land in December 2009 to host the logistics depot, one of the two approved for the region by the Heads of State and Government of the ECOWAS Community. Mali hosts the second depot, which will cater for humanitarian needs for peace support operations (PSOs).
Although no date has been fixed for the hand-over by President Ernest Bai Koroma to the President of the Commission, Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, Â ECOWASÂ Technical team including the Acting Facility Manager and a representative of the ECOWAS Directorate of Administration led by the ECOWAS Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security, Retired General Charles Okae. Agreed with officials of the Government of Sierra Leone during a Week-long visit on the budget and draft programme for the event.
It is important to note that the Ernest Bai Koroma led Government was recently recognized for Peace and stability by recently wining the “African Peace Awards†in South Africa.
Sierra Leone’s foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Hon. Zainab H. Bangura is a member of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers.
