The Illusion of 2012 Sharp 12

The Illusion of 2012 Sharp 12

When I first heard of the much talked about “2012 Sharp 12” something came immediately to my mind. I recall in 2007 before the internationally acclaimed Presidential elections that swept into power Dr Ernest Bai Koroma of the All Peoples Congress (APC); the then Presidential candidate of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party(SLPP) made a similar statement of illusion which by all indication even to the most illiterate citizen or any other person for that matter will not come true. Mr Solomon Ekuma Berewa said that even if two (2) people voted for him, he is sure of winning the elections.

Frankly speaking, I am not sure whether Solo B (as he was fondly called) was aware of the implication of the assertion of winning the presidential elections with just two (2) votes. When my 9 years old daughter heard Mr. Berewa made the bluff she asked how many voters will make a contestant become president of Sierra Leone. I told her that the candidate needs to get 55% of the votes cast. She further enquired how many votes constitute 55% to which I indicated it depends on the votes cast. She finally asked how Solo B hopes to win with just two (2) votes when even our household alone had four(4) votes and these were surely not his votes. My simple answer was I do not know but may be he is a magician and will use the usual tactics of SLPP in winning past elections.

So much for the illusion of 2007, let us now talk about the current illusion of winning 2012 elections at sharp 12. I do not know whether they are referring to 12 midday or 12 midnight. However let us evaluate the possibility of 12 midday. At 12 midday the elections will not have ended and am very sure enough people will not have voted to guarantee a winner. Looking at the 12 midnight scenario; though counting may have been completed yet the results would not have been totally collated and announced by the official source which is the National Electoral Commission through its chairperson Dr Christiana Thorpe who is the recognized returning officer.

So one would now wonder where the SLPP is drawing its strength from in winning the elections of 2012 at sharp 12. May be and just may be they are relying on the “Kailahun Court Barray” tactics of over voting and going ahead to declare themselves winners as they did during the 2007 elections. I am sure if they never succeeded when they were at State House, I wonder how they will now succeed when they are far away from State House and more importantly we still have the no nonsense and uncompromising NEC Chairperson in the much respected personality of Dr Christian Thorpe.

Notwithstanding the impossibility of SLPP achieving their 2012 Sharp 12 illusion, they should however not be dismissed with a wave of the hand. You will agree with me that the SLPP is currently a “Blind Party” which is being lead by “Blind Men and Women” and being supported by “Blind People”. In this light therefore when a blind person says he/she will pelt you with a stone; the logical and more realistic thinking will be he/she has stepped on the stone already. APC and Dr Ernest Bai Koroma since you do not know where the stone is, neither do you know how the stone is going to be thrown, my advice to you is to open your eyes wide like a mountain fat foot so that you can see far and wide and being able to circumvent any wishy-washy by the so-called elite party.

Finally, let me admonish the SLPP not to continue with the “Illusion of 2012 Sharp 12” as doing so means they will just be seeing a mirage which will leave them thirstier than they ever thought or may have experienced already. Winning elections is about reality and not illusions. You had one illusion before and you lost and now you have developed another one and for sure having stood on the illusion of 2012 Sharp 12 you will definitely lose again. Remember that the sand of illusion is sinking sand.

Mark my word and remember to be real come 2017 if your want to genuinely contest and have the slimmest chance of making a head way.

  • God created numbers and numbers are real an distinct. Winning an election has to deal with number and where is the number from. Illusion is not good, we need to be realistic in our assertions
