Accused in Le20M Bail

Accused Thaimu Kamara was before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Court No. 2 on one count charge of wounding contrary to Section 20 against the Persons Act of 1861.

It was alleged that on the 10th September 2017, at Mattson Street in Freetown, the accused allegedly hit Anderson Koroma with a stone which rendered him unconscious but he later gained consciousness at the Connaught Hospital.

The Complainant, Anderson Koroma testified in Court that he lives at No.2 Patton Street adding that he is a businessman and recognized the accused the day of the incident which took place on the 10th September 2017  during the morning hours at his business center, Mattson Street in Freetown.

Koroma told the Court that he was at his store when he suddenly heard people jubilating after somebody had won a Chairmanship election adding that the accused came from nowhere and entered the store. At this juncture, the complainant said he instructed the accused to go out but in the process, the accused then picked up a rock and hit him on his forehead and left him unconscious.

The complainant said, he was then taken to the hospital by one of his neighbors Mohamed Alhaji Bangura who made report on his behalf and he was treated and given a medical form which he took to the Eastern Police Station where statement was obtained from him.

The accused was represented by a Cameroonian Lawyer, Astuntantang Samuel Tambe whilst Sergeant 785 Kamara A. is prosecuting the matter.

Lawyer Tambe applied for bail Pursuant to Section 79(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act on the grounds that the accused deserves a fair trial because he has had a conference with him and assured the Court that he will not jump bail and he has credible sureties.

Bail was granted to him in the sum of twenty million Leones, two sureties who should produce National Identity Cards and bail is to be approved by the DAR while the matter was adjourned to the 12th October 2017.
