Sierra Leone Could Survive On Tourism Alone!
Most countries that are booming in the tourist industry in Africa do not have as many beautiful beautiful beaches as Sierra Leone possesses!
I have seen the beaches in Banjul, Dakar, Mombasa, Abidjan, Cotonou, Bissau, Brazzaville and elsewhere but I can say that they are far below what we have in Sierra Leone!
However, it should be noted that tourism doesn’t boom in a country that lacks basic infrastructure and basic social services like water, electricity, reliable medical facilities, roads, security and above all, a clean and healthy environment!
Sierra Leone has beautiful beaches, splendid vegetations, mesmerizing rivers and a wonderful sunshine, but lacks basic social services to be able to make the country a tourist destination.
The environment is dirty and unsafe for inhabitation by civilised people. It is filled with battalions of mosquitoes that keep reinforcing their ranks in their trenches as mountains of garbage continue to engulf main cities!
The photos below were taken in the early 1980s. The beaches have since been invaded by sea weed and dangerous sand mining that have rendered them so unsightly!
Civilised people don’t go to country’s that constitute risks to their health and safety! Rebranding Sierra Leone is not about trying to dress a big with expensive shows and clothes but rather making it modern, safe and comfortable enough to attract outsiders!
