Minister of Social Welfare Gender & Children Affairs Commends Plan International Sierra Leone

The Minister of Social Welfare Gender & Children Affairs, Honourable Dr. Sylvia Blyden yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the Country Director of Plan International Sierra Leone, Casely Ato Coleman.

The Country Director updated the Minister on Plan International Sierra Leone’s strategic focus on girls for the next 5 years as well as current projects.

Casely expressed Plan’s appreciation for the support of the Ministry during the implementation of the child protection systems strengthening project in Moyamba which was funded by Plan International Sweden and which the Ministry has agreed to work with Plan to replicate across the country.

He also pledged Plan’s continuous support to the Ministry to enforce government’s policy of banning harmful practices against children.

In her comments, Dr. Blyden commended the contributions of Plan International Sierra Leone towards the initiatives of the Ministry and said Plan was a consistent leading partner on girls and children rights in the country.

She specifically applauded the leadership of Casely Ato Coleman for Plan’s support during Ebola as well as post Ebola and expressed her heartfelt appreciation for Plan’s contributions towards the institutional strengthening of the Ministry and especially for the active engagement of Plan International Sierra Leone towards harmonizing the current child marriage law in Sierra Leone.  Dr. Blyden pledged that this will be a priority for the attention of cabinet.
