“Compassionate Maada Bio” donates to flood victims

The Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio who has been dubbed as “Compassionate Maada Bio” by the people of Bo, has through the SLPP structure in Bo district donated food and non-food items to flood victims in Bagbe, Kakua and Baoma chiefdoms in the Bo district.

The presentation of food and non-food items costing millions of leones was made on behalf of Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada by his elder brother Mohamed Askia Bio to the SLPP Bo district Chairman for the flood victims. In his presentation, Mohamed Askia Bio told the gathering that when the flooding took place Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio has not been in the country but he has been very concern and devastated because of the sufferings which the inhabitants of Bagbe, Kakua and Baoma chiefdoms have gone through.

Mohamed Askia Bio also told the gathering that the Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio wanted to make the donation through the SLPP party structure in Bo because he believed that the SLPP is a very caring party and for many years the party has stood by ordinary people especially in difficult times. “Rtd Brig. Julius Maada Bio hopes that his modest contributions to the flood victims in the three chiefdoms will help ameliorate their present sufferings” Mohamed Akia Bio added.

In receiving the food and non-food items, the Bo district Chairman, Alhaji Kanja Sesay expressed his appreciation on behalf of the party for the respect which Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio has shown for the party structure. Alhaji Sesay on behalf of the victims thanked Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio and Mrs Fatima Maada Bio for the donation and stated that the party was very proud to associate itself with the plight of the people of Bagbe, Kakua and Baoma Chiefdoms. Alhaji Sesay said the party will always stand by the victims and will support them as they go through the recovery. Alhaji Sesay also thanked other SLPP members who have made contributions towards the victims. The Bo district Chairman then formally handed over the food and non-food items to the Disaster Management Team Chairman, Bo District, Joseph Munda Bindi who also doubles as the Bo District Council Chairman.

In his response, the Chairman, Disaster Management Team, Joseph Munda Bindi, on behalf of Bo District and in particular the three flood affected chiefdoms thanked Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio for his kind gesture. Chairman Bindi said that the donation is very timely and it will make a great difference in the lives of the flood victims who have gone through a very difficult time. Chairman Bindi also stated that the donations from Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio showed that he cared about ordinary people as even from a far distance he heard the cries of the flood victims and he has responded as a caring man. Speakers and speakers also praised Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio for the donation.

Compassionate Maada Bio 1

The donation included the following food and non-food items – 140 bags of rice, 50 gallons of vegetable oil, 70 bags of salt, 100 plastic buckets, 3 cartoons of maggie and other condiments. The food and non-food items are expected to be distributed to the flood victims of the three affected chiefdoms by the Disaster Management Team, Bo district.

The unprecedented flooding which affected the three chiefdoms occurred on Saturday, 5th September and Sunday 6th September 2015. According to reports many people in Bagbe, Kakua, and Baoma Chiefdoms have been directly affected by the floods and many communities in the three chiefdoms have either their houses broken or their crops and farm produce destroyed. More than 200 houses and other valuable property were destroyed in the three affected chiefdoms. The Disaster Management Team of the District has repatriated most of the inhabitants of the affected chiefdoms and victims are presently being lodged in classrooms in School buildings.
