“The Agenda for Prosperity is a Multi-faceted project” – says President Koroma

President Ernest Bai Koroma has disclosed that the Agenda for Prosperity programme, which he will be launching this June, “is a mega and multi-faceted project with eight pillars, each pillar carrying its own flagship projects”.

In a very relaxed and confidence mood at the Zavantem International Airport in Brussels, Wednesday, on his way back to Freetown after successfully attending the TICAD V project in Japan, the Chief Executive highlighted some of the mega projects contained in the Agenda for Prosperity – They include the construction of the two cities at Lungi and Mamamah respectively; the new International Airport at Mamamah; the Bridge from Lungi to Freetown; the Hill Cut Ring road; the electrification of solar street lights in all regional, district and chiefdom headquarter towns, to name but a few.

He said the ongoing countrywide road construction, the rehabilitation of Lungi International Airport, the Free Health Care, the boost in Agriculture, the restructuring in the Education sector are all projects contained in the Agenda for Change which he launched in his first term in office. “These Agenda for Change projects must be wrapped up by the end of this year and we kick-off with the Prosperity Agenda”.

The Head of State emphasised that the Prosperity Agenda is for the transformation of the lives of the people. “By 2016, nobody will import rice to Sierra Leone, whilst everybody must have nationwide access to WIFI internet facilities. More roads will be constructed/rehabilitated etc”.

The President called on all Sierra Leoneans to deviate from the narrow way of thinking and doing things. “This was why our country was where it was before my coming into office”. He rhetorically asked the question, “How many people had thought that Wilkinson/Spur and Wilberforce roads will be transformed into a Dual carriage? How many people would have believed that solar street lights will be provided in all regional, district and chiefdom headquarter towns? But these projects are now ongoing and will be completed by the end of this year”.

Asked whether his government has already secured the much the needed funds for these mega projects, the Head of State said, “most of the funds will be derived from domestic revenues. The money is there. We just need to tightened up the loosen screws. An office that was spending Le 3million weekly on coffee drinking must be ordered to stop that reckless way of wasting state funds. The wastages were too many”.

In his usual trademark smile, the President said after his second and final term in 2017/18, “I will retire peacefully to my village in Bombali, eat my native fish, cassava or rice every morning whilst relaxing under the trees”.
