Michael Felix Rowe Receives MEMOS Degree

Michael Felix Rowe is the first Sierra Leonean to receive the Executive Masters in Sports Organization Management (MEMOS) degree.

The MEMOS programmed was supported by the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC SL) through the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The programme consists of 4 modules and was completed at different universities.

  • First module at the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration and Management, University of Lausanne, Switerzerland,
  • Second module at St. Augustine University, the University of the Caribbean Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Third module at University of Zagreb, Croatia, and
  • Fourth module at University of Poitiers, France.

According to Michael Felix Rowe, he said the role of Memosian is to be able to manage and develop the different sport organizations within his or her country and beyond, and also to implement and develop administrative management policies and develop projects within the NOC as well as serving as Marketing and Sports Manager for Sport in Sierra Leone.

During the certification ceremony, Michael Felix Rowe was the only one from West Africa out of 55 who were awarded the degree with five others from different parts of Africa.

He said initially the number was 75 but 20 backed out because they were not able to live up to the standard of the course which was very tense.

Rowe went further to thank the NOC who nominated him to do the course a year ago and he said the course was not easy but he was able to succeed because of his determination.

Michael Rowe is the head of the Games and Sports Department, College of Medicine and Allied Science, at the University of Sierra Leone.

Rowe received his first masters at Njala University in Sports Administrative and Management (MA.Ed) from his 2007 – 2008 academic years.

Michael Rowe is the first Sierra Leonean to obtain the highest IOC degree as International Sports Manager and for the West Africa sub-region.
