Voters Acclaims President’s Sister

Voters in several parts of the country have acclaimed President Ernest Bai Koroma’s elder sister, Madam Florence M. Koroma (in photo), a retired teacher from the United States of America for contributing to voter education.

According to voters who spoke to this medium, Madam Koroma’s intervention created greater impact in the just concluded November 17, 2012 elections by minimizing the number of invalid votes. It could be recalled that during the 2007 general elections the number of invalid votes were over five hundred thousand because of lower voter education.

Madam Koroma trained over 1,500 voter educators headed by Ben Kargbo who played a pivotal role during the training in Moyama, Koinadugu, Kambia, Kono among others districts, towns and villages.

Political parties instead of sensitizing people on how to vote concentrated on rallying and dancing. It is against this backdrop that the President’s Sister abandoned her sojourn country to engage in massive voter education with a hybrid team of   teachers who traversed the country. Out of her own resources she mobilized able-bodied men and women who spent hours on end to show people how to vote regard political affiliation. Section after section the educators acclaimed the intervention of Madam Florence M. Koroma and called on other Sierra Leoneans to intervene in similar situation.

She is with the conviction that not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.

At the eve of the elections she transported voters to their various polling stations and chartered about one hundred fifty motor bikes with the help of Alhaji I. B. Kargbo and Sheka Tarawallie.
