Mr President beware of excesses of the police

It is with great caution I chose to put my opinionated thought as to the prime importance of my beloved land.  Mr. President it is no longer a poll of doubt that the excess of the Sierra Leone Police Force is one that calls for concern.

The spate of police encounter as against those they should be protecting is one on the high increase; people say the action of man casts shadows of the future, the language therein points that the actions of the police are fate casting shadows of bleakness that might provoke the worse come 2012 November polls.

I ask one singular question, is the police credential committee sound enough in cross-checking the records of their intake, did they research the background culture of some of these recruits?  Many will say no, if it was, then the manner and methods by which certain sectors of police are discharging their mandatory duties speaks irresponsible in its entirety.

Public opinion seems to be gathering dust around the confines of Sierra Leone that police action is displeasing all around, strings of miscalculation by the police in the various shootouts in Tongo Field, police shooting of civilians over Koidu Holdings Limited, the Bo political quagmire, the African Mineral Workers Limited industrial strike action, Wellington killing of two innocent boys, and quite recently the killing of Mohamed Quares, which speaks volumes of a tidings of misplaced judgments that have the propensity to change the line of acrimony in the polls amongst irate youths in an hour of criticality.

We cannot be rolling around apologising all the time when police make  a mistake, people error and mistakes are part of human nature but as responsible state institutions one is duty bound to enhance and minimize errors and mistakes, we don’t have all the time to make up for these, I draw reference to the incident in England were we see a senior police officer (De-Sherriff) mistakenly killed a black man in Tottenham while chasing group of boys over an alleged phone tapping scam and ended up responding immaturely on the media which ended up inciting riotous conduct amongst youths in the whole country.

Youths lost their senses by unleashing mayhem resulting in an untold vandalism which many are still standing trial for, both minors and adults were seen at the forefront of committing criminal offences.

Presumably the best or one of the best equipped and professionally trained police forces in the world cannot control its citizens when the confidence of its people is shattered; as the saying goes, when the people fear their government it is tyranny but when the reverse it is called total destruction.  Each day that passes by the people grow tired and frustrated over the police use of excess and it is not a good sign as it has the character to institute fear to the powers that be.

In a comparative analysis if such a structured police force cannot cope or challenge a problem as big as the one cited, what will happen in our own case if presumably such occurs in the midst of angry protesters?  I beg not to see such a day.

Mr. President I ask that you use your presidential wisdom swiftly to help salvage this menace that is eating the fabric of this country.
