Sierra Leoneans join millions to pray for nation

A good number of Sierra Leoneans based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia  joined over two million Muslims from across the world  in the Holy Land of Mecca to offer special prayers for  their country on the 27th night of Ramadan,  widely believed to be  “Lailatul Qadr’’, the Night of Power.

President of the Sierra Leone Missionary Union and Managing Director of Voice of Islam (VOI) Radio, Sheik Zackie Kallon and Proprietors of Ansarul Islamic Mission in Sierra Leone, Alhaji Sajalieu Bah and Alhaji Chewtor Jalloh were the prominent Sierra Leoneans from Freetown amongst their Saudi based compatriots during the special prayers.

“The night is full of honour and dignity. It is the night in which the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to the Islamic Prophet Muhammad when he was in prayer in the cave of Hira,” says Sheik Zackie .

He adds that: “It’s one of the holiest and most blessed nights. The reward of worship on this night is better than the worship of a thousand months of worship, equivalent to a person’s lifetime.”

The head of the Missionary Union in Sierra Leone reiterates that: “Like in the past years, we decided to join our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land to use this holy period to pray for the progress, prosperity, sustainable peace and development of our country.”

Sheik Zackie concludes that: “We also prayed for the protection and guidance of our leader, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, and also for the unity and peaceful co-existence in Sierra Leone.’

Earlier, one of the Imams at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Abdul Rahman Ibn Abdul Aziz al-Sudais, prayed for the entire Muslim Ummah, and for peace and stability to prevail in the world, especially the Arab world.
