HRC Neutrality Questioned – Le 150,000 Chopped

Complaints forwarded to the Human Rights Commission by people of Matham and Kabaya communities in the Kambia district concerning Le 150,000 corruptly chopped by some public officers questioned credibility.

The Secretary General for the Movement for the Welfare of the Deprived Community, Ishmael Sesay, in an interview, unveiled his heartfelt disappointment over the pace at which the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone handles complaints made to them against an APC Honourable Ibrahim Sorie, Late Paramount Chief Bai Farama Bubu Ngbak, Kambia District Chairman Adekalie Sankoh, the Deputy Chairman who also doubles as Councilor in Ward 130, Foday Bangura, and the Director SLRA Munda Rogers.

According to Ishmael, lands in Matham and Kabaya Towns were used as excavation sites for mining and the grinding of granites by the CSC Construction Company.

Upon this, the company was compelled to pay compensation for use of community lands.

That money to the tune of Le 150,000 was paid unquestionably to officials representing the ward, constituency and district respectively.

This, to the direct beneficiaries, is yet to reach them.

Sources say money as aforestated was shared from among Honourable Ibrahim, Late PC Bai Farama Bubu Ngbak, the Kambia District Chairman and his deputy and the Director SLRA Munda Rogers.

Although any of the accused persons would not give way for an interview with Sierra Express Media, investigation has revealed the amount of damages caused on lands in Matham and Kabaya Towns respectively.

Site visits also revealed how the CSC excavation points have heavy weight machines able and capable to dredge flat lands to them become wet or waterish.

The Human Rights Commission has been described by the people of Kambia as an organization without action but has too many jokers.

“It was our intention and belief that the Human Rights Commission would have been able to champion our case” Ishmael said.

Ads: “we complained to them because we were of the opinion that they have all it takes to force all irresponsible constituency, ward and district officials vomit money legally paid us as compensation.”

Conversely, and for the sake of objectivity, our reporter, a few days ago, caught up with CSC Administrative Manager, A. Sam but this is what he told us verbatim: “government has given us the authority to blast stones in Matham and Kabaya Towns. If the community people have a problem with that they should forward their complaint to the SLRA and not CSC.”

Although the CSC Administrative Manager avoided making any comment as to payment of Le150,000 compensation made to people affected by the blasting, sources say money was paid direct to the Director of SLRA, Munda Rogers, but was shared from among few officials forenamed.

Contact made by this press to the Human Rights Commission confirmed facts in relation to complaint made by people of Matham and Kabaya in the Kambia District.

The complaint officer, Lucian P.S. Caulker, said his organization has issued letter of acknowledgment to the civil society movement representing the above named communities and have asked them to come with witnesses but refused.

Contradictions as to who is saying the truth is the hundred plus question.

Ishmael Sesay who doubles as Secretary General for a Kambia based civil society organization has damned comment of the Human Rights Commission as totally false.

“We have reached the Human Rights Commission office for unaccountable times but nothing positive is said to us,” words of Ishmael.
