Former President of the ECOWAS Commission and now Secretary General of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, Dr. Muhammad Ibn Chambas, on Wednesday expressed his deepest condolence to the people of Sierra Leone on the loss of “a great son of the soil” in M. B. Daramy.

Signing the Book of Condolence that was opened at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Brussels since Monday, July 18th, Dr. Chambas wrote, “on behalf of the ACP Group of States and in my own name, I wish to express deep condolences at the demise of late Alhaji Mohamed Daramy. I received the sad news of the passing away of Alhaji, as I called him, with a heavy heart. I recalled fondly working with Alhaji when he served his country, Sierra Leone as a Minister and of course when he was my Commissioner at the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja. He was a colleague, brother and friend who served his country and sub-region to the best of his abilities.

“Our sympathies go out to his family and loved ones. May Allah grant them the strength to bear the painful and irreplaceable loss and the courage to move on.  May Allah be kind to Alhaji and receive him in Al-Jannah- Amen!”.

The Ambassador of Nigeria to Brussels, His Excellency Usman A. Baraya, who is also a close friend of M. B. Daramy also paid tribute and signed the Book  of Condolence alongside diplomatic representatives from the Embassies of Ghana, Togo, Zambia, Swaziland, Namibia etc.

The late MBD, as he was fondly called was described by many as a consummate and generous politician. He passed away in Abuja last week.
