To Minimize Hunger KISDO Embarks on Agriculture

The Kissy Sustainable Development Organization (KISDO) has explained plan to boost food production by implementing agricultural project across the country.

This was brought to the attention of the general public at Youyi Building during the well attended official launching of KISDO on Saturday 20th October 2018.

Speaking at the event, the KISDO Executive Director, Michael S. Mansaray said their main aim was to implement agricultural projects that would bring laurels for KISDO and spoke about the semi-intensive poultry project which he said will be added with small ruminants.

He said the total budget to construct two giants building, water well and electricity generation is two hundred and fifty six thousand three hundred and thirty six dollars adding that it is a project they will be introducing to NGO’s for proper implementation at Koindu in Kailahun District where the project will be first implemented before it will be replicated in Kono District and other parts of the country.

He discussed that there will be monitoring and evaluation to ensure funds donated are properly utilized for its intended purposes. “We are also working currently to manufacture the KISDO Fresh Water soon”, said the Executive Director and disclosed that they are also striving to involve in commercial rice cultivation which he described as the staple food for Sierra Leoneans. He said the Cassava project for Garry production is ongoing and stressed that without food, education cannot be sustainable.

Mr. Mansaray further explained their intention to start a Soap Manufacturing Industry and spoke about the well equipped Library with solar system for children to study and researchers to make their research. “We had a vision to shape future of most vulnerable places in Kailahun District”, he told audience.

Representative of the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS), Dr. Lenore commended the semi-poultry project KISDO is striving to implement adding that they have the technical know-how to support the project under the Livestock Division. He said car batteries and solar panel can help to provide electricity on a daily basis and promised to help the organization to have a registered certificate from the ministry to be identified as farmers of Sierra Leone. He said they will give technical advice on small ruminants.

In his power-point presentation, Captain Falla Simeon Tamba said KISDO was established in 2011 by the Kissy and other tribes in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea adding that they donated food and non food items including cash to the devastated mudslide victims and supported victims of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and the removal of the discovered arms in Buedu Town, Kailahun District with the help of SLP, ONS and the Military through the supervision of the Minster of Internal Affairs to ensure the safety of Buedu indigenes.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Boss, Ben Kelfala who is also a Kissy by tribe said he was happy to be part of the forum and emphasized that he don’t joke with the Kissy heritage “This organization formed to bring Kissy people together”, he told his audience and maintained that even though they are in minority in the country but they can do all what it takes to develop the Kissy oriented through continuous engagement.
