FCC complains about tax compliance

The Principal Revenue Collector of the Freetown City Council had described the revenue collected from local taxes in 2010 as “unsatisfactory.”

Ibrahim Kamara told this medium that many eligible tax payers in the municipality had been evading the payment of the 2010 local tax.

Mr. Kamara said their target for this year’s revenue from local taxes is three billion Leones. He however noted that since the exercise started in January 2010, the council had only collected Le 500 million, an amount he said was far lesser than the over Le 1.6 billion collected last year.

Mr. Kamara said starting first week August, 2010, the City Council would introduce patrol teams across the municipality to check for tax evaders. He appealed to residents of Freetown who were yet to pay their local tax to do so in the interest of the development of the municipality.
