Tonkolili MP Catch Up in Makeni City, Sierra Leone
The All Peoples Congress (APC) Member of Parliament for Constituency 51 in Tonkolili District, Hon. Alhaji Soriba Turay (in photo) was caught up in an interview with this medium during the weekend right in the northern City of Makeni.
Speaking on behalf of the District, Matotoka and Gbonkolenken Chiefdom, Hon. Soriba spoke on his preparedness and action in collaboration with community actors to always keep his area of operation clean and diverts communicable or transmissible illnesses to enhance healthy environment and breathe fresh air.
‘’We are trying to prepare a dustbin for easy deposition of filth’’, he stated and cited Makeni and Magburaka as well sanitized Cities for the fact that he said dustbins have provided in all corners of the cities.
He described the issue of Constituency development as a big challenge because he said; it is not easy to satisfy electorate. He frankly stated that he is helping his subjects through his meager salary.
On the Free Quality Education, Hon. Soriba said it is a very good initiative especially when it is prioritized by the Government adding, ‘’My role as a legislator is to supervise and oversee both primary and secondary schools through engagement with headmasters and principals to ensure that the Free Quality Education succeeded. He spoke on the important for Government to increase classrooms because he said; it is difficult to control pupils in a congested classroom. He therefore encouraged responsible institutions to provide conducive learning centers for the children. He said if students prepare themselves well, there would be no examination malpractice. He spoke about the ten million Leones he provided for the completion of a water dam project and facilitated vehicle license and Okada riders to reduce idleness among young people. He called on Government to encourage investors to create employment for the active population. He said to break the adage ‘D Gron Dry’ there should be a national cohesion by bringing all political parties together to fully participate in the process and stressed that national cohesion could not be called where human rights violation and political intimidation have taken over the country. He said reinstating former President Ernest Bai Koroma’s security is not only headway to national cohesion but Government would also succeed to achieve its goal. However, the lawmaker said the Leader and Chairman of the main opposition; All Peoples Congress is comfortable without state security. He discussed that former Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh’s security and Joe Demby still maintain their original state security while Ex-President Koroma’s state security removed.
He said when President Koroma took over the mantle of power, he developed cordial relationship with late President Kabba adding, ‘’it is the same approach we all want to see as a nation’’. He encouraged Ministries Department and Agencies (MDA’s) to make sure their work reflect to the common man.
