Bio On Political Cleansing
Fita Fata Sackings, Transfers, Leaves & Retirements for Civil & Public Servants
In a little over a month since coming to power, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) led government of Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio has embarked on what many have referred to as political and ethnic cleansing in both the Civil and Public Services as Sierra Leoneans are now witnessing an unprecedented sackings, transfers, leaves and retirements for both our public and civil servants.
Since Bio was sworn in as president of the Republic of Sierra Leone on the 4th of April, 2018, hundreds of Sierra Leoneans in the public and civil services, many of whom are perceived opposition party loyalists are losing their jobs on a daily basis. We have witnessed the unconstitutional sacking of all Sierra Leonean diplomats including the different Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Press Attaches, the dissolution and arbitrary dismissal of close to two hundred former employees of the now dissolved State House Office of Chief of Staff which the Bio government perceived as been dominated by opposition party loyalists, the massive transfer of personnel both in the military and the Sierra Leone Police Forces mostly northerners perceived to be sympathizers of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) Party and the unprecedented transfers, forceful sending on leave and vacation of personnel in the public and civil services, dissolution of all Boards and the sending of hundreds of personnel into early retirements .
This act from the Bio led government is viewed by many as a recipe for disaster especially in a country where to get a job is extremely difficult and highly based on political, regional and tribal lines. To make matters worse, the president, upon his assumption of office, has now put a moratorium on every public and civil service employment in one of his Executive Orders which has now put him as the sole employer in the country
