14 Year Old Child Beaten and Left for Dead

14 year old Salamatu Kabba of Dwarzark Farm in the George Brook community in Freetown was seriously beaten, wounded, with bruises all over her body and left for dead; an act which was said to have been carried out by one Hawa Koroma identified as a neighbor in the same area. According to reports, it was passersby who discovered half-dead Salamatu and rushed her to the Hospital; the singular move that saved her life.

In an interview with Sierra Express Media, Salamatu Kabba alleged that the issues started on Wednesday 9th May 2010 when Hawa asked her to give her some rice from what her Uncle Saidu Samura brought for their personal use at home; a request which she denied but that Hawa took offence and bore the grudge against her. She further revealed that immediately after her refusal, Hawa started raining insults and invectives on her and that when she (Salamatu) took to defending herself, Hawa went on the rampage to beating her so badly and left for dead.

The matter is said to have been taken to the police and uncle to Salamatu, Saidu Samurab explained at the New England Police station that such an act has over come the entire George Brooke community noting that domestic violence has become the order of the day and that mothers and children are the virtual victims.

Officer in Charge of New England Police Station, Superintendent Denis Taylor also expressed concern at the rate in which such incidents occur, stating that the police community partnership has organized several sensitization meetings and workshop in a bid to change the attitudes and behaviors of people with regards to domestic violence but that the expected resulted of such moves have not be yielded.

The police, Sierra Express has learnt, has issued out a medical report to Salamatu whilst Hawa stays in police custody until the matter is properly investigated.
