Events celebrating and commemorating Sierra Leone’s 49th Independence Anniversary Day were crowned on Thursday evening with a special prayer and choral service at the Westminster Abbey in London.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Sierra Leone High Commission in the United Kingdom and a cross section of Sierra Leoneans in London.

This is an annual event granted by Westminster Abbey to all countries marking their respective National Independence Day anniversaries.

Earlier, prayers were also offered at the Brixton Mosque and the Walworth Methodist Church respectively and later a reception organised by the mission in collaboration with a group of Sierra Leoneans known as 48-50 Group, at the Camden Centre.

The 48-50 Group was basically formed to compliment the mission’s effort in organising a successful anniversary programme.
