Maternal and Child Health Week to Commence
As part of the country’s efforts to prevent vaccine preventable diseases maintain Polio eradication and achieved measles elimination, the fourth rounds of nationwide supplementary immunization activities (SIA) have being conducted.
The maternal and child health week will be launch at the Kambia District North of Sierra Leone from November 26-30 November with measles marklate for Children of fifteen to twenty three months, Vitamin .A Supplementation for all children of six to fifteen nine months, Deworming with Albendazole for all children of twelve to fifty nine months, vaccinate children zero to twenty three months who missed routine immunization and focus on service for pregnant women aiming to achieve ninety percent coverage for various live saving interventions that impact on the welfare of women and children thereby reducing mortality and morbidity.
Dr. Dennis Mark, Program Manager Maternal and Child Health Week noted that the focus of maternal and Child Health Week is to reach as many children as possible and provide another opportunity for reaching missed children aimed at complementing the facility base health service delivery as the present day focus is on reaching every child of zero to fifty nine months with the above interventions.
Dr. Mark furthered that vaccination children who missed routine immunization as a result of the Ebola Virus Disease currently less than twenty four months are likely to have missed one or more vaccine doses noting that during the campaign any child from zero to twenty three months old that has missed a vaccine does should be given appropriate vaccines at home targeting one million five Hundred Children.
