Association of Timber Sierra Leone appeals to Government
The chairman of Timber Association of Sierra Leone, Mr. Abass Janneh told Sierra Express Media that the executive of the association, together with the entire membership of the association across the country, are appealing particularly to His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to allow the timbers that have been put on hold to be exported as they promise to honor all the bills.
Mr. Janneh said they are a registered legal business operating in Sierra Leone. He furthered that they have provided jobs for over 90,000 youths nationwide. He continued that the association has been doing business in Sierra Leone for over 23 years with over $4 Billion to invest in the timber business with 2,000 containers in the pipeline waiting government approval.
He said the government should not take avenge against them for the wrongs of others as they have been fully honoring their tax obligations and call on His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to critically look into their issue with pity and compassion.
He pointed out that despite the ban on timber exportation it was with the consent of His Excellency the President and Government that gave the green light to Mr. Alie Suma to export in order to enable him to settle his bills, noting that State House or the Ministry never copied the association.
Mr. Abass Janneh said they have no right to temper with the ongoing court action against one of their colleagues or reverse the decision but said they are united to ensure that their 2,000 containers of timber at the quay and the Hastings police training school be released to them for export.
